Keynote Lectures and Technical Sessions:
The congress will allow professionals in the Asia region and
around the world to exchange the views on current issues and
future trends of Tunnelling and underground structures.
Participants of member nations of the International Tunnelling
and Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES) and Engineering
Institute of Thailand (EIT) will be offered a great opportunity
to meet with practitioners and scientists in the Tunnelling and
associated industries.
Pre-Congress Technical Training Program
Apart from technical sessions led by prominent
keynote
lecturers and series of presentations by the congress
participants, WTC Bangkok 2012 will feature pre-conference
technical training programs which will be led by ITA with
resources contributed by Asian Institute of Technology and
major universities in Thailand. Specialists from the industry will
be invited to lecture the most recent innovation in Tunnelling
and underground space technology.
Exhibition
The exhibition will be held in a creative and
cooperative
atmosphere where worldwide recognized companies will display
the latest stateof-the-art technologies, from innovative products
and available advanced services to today’s Tunnelling and
underground structure industry.
Technical Field Trips
Technical field trips will be arranged for delegates
to see the
ongoing Tunnelling and underground construction projects and
completed major projects.
One of the most
interesting projects will be the Bangkok
MRTA Blue Line Extension. Within underground sections of MRT
Extension Line, there are some sensitive historical areas where
Tunnelling and underground excavation would face major
challenges. Ground freezing method may be utilized to
pre-stabilize Bangkok soft clay coupled with NATM application for
the station located in most culturally and historically significant
area, Rattanakosin Island, where full cut-and-cover method is not
applicable for underground excavation. Construction work of this
extension line is likely to be commenced before 2012.
